Los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio se pospusieron a verano 2021 a causa de la pandemia de coronavirus causante del COVID-19. Tokio 2020 comenzará el 23 de julio, aunque habrá competición desde el miércoles 21, y hasta el domingo 8 de agosto de 2021.
En los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 habrá récord de competiciones con 33. En total serán 339 eventos, que se celebrarán en 42 sedes de competición diferentes.
