Israel é um pequeno país dentro do grande mundo da ciência e tecnologia. Como muitos outros pequenos países teve que definir com precisão sua política em relação às atividades científicas e tecnológicas, para poder reforçar sua capacidade competitiva.
No campo da ciência, Israel estimula o estabelecimento de centros de excelência, em torno de cientistas de projeção e em áreas vitais para o desenvolvimento do setor industrial, ao mesmo tempo em que tenta manter um padrão mínimo de qualidade internacional em todos os campos científicos.
A cooperação internacional continua a desempenhar um papel fundamental, ampliando os recursos científicos e conhecimentos técnicos especializados que o país tem à sua disposição. No campo tecnológico, Israel busca um alto desempenho, sobretudo através da especialização, concentrando o esforço nacional num número limitado de áreas.
A porcentagem da população israelense que se dedica à pesquisa científica e tecnológica, assim como os recursos despendidos em pesquisa e desenvolvimento (P&D), em relação ao Produto Interno Bruto (PIB), estão entre os mais altos do mundo; e relativamente ao tamanho da mão-de-obra, Israel ostenta o maior número de autores publicados nos campos das ciências naturais, engenharia, agricultura e medicina.
O Início
A história da pesquisa científica em Israel é parte integrante da saga do retorno do povo judeu à sua pátria. Teodoro Herzl (1860-1904), o criador do sionismo político e o primeiro a promover ativamente a idéia de um moderno estado judeu na Terra de Israel, tinha em vista não somente um lar físico para o povo judeu, mas também um grande centro espiritual, cultural e científico.
O desejo de transformar a Terra de Israel, na época uma região estéril e infestada de doenças, num estado moderno, foi o fator-chave no desenvolvimento da pesquisa científica e tecnológica subseqüente. A pesquisa agrícola remonta ao fim do século XIX, com a criação, em 1870, da Escola Mikve Israel.
A Estação Agrícola, estabelecida em Tel Aviv em 1921, tornou-se posteriormente a Organização de Pesquisa Agrícola, que é hoje a principal instituição de pesquisa e desenvolvimento agrícola de Israel.
A pesquisa médica e de saúde pública teve início antes da 1a Guerra Mundial, com a fundação do Centro Hebraico de Saúde; outro marco importante foi a criação do Instituto de Microbiologia e dos departamentos de bioquímica, bacteriologia e higiene da Universidade Hebraica de Jerusalém (meados da década de 20), que constituíram a base do Centro Médico Hadassa, hoje a mais importante instituição de pesquisa médica de Israel.
Os pioneiros da pesquisa industrial foram os Laboratórios do Mar Morto, criados nos anos 30; os primeiros progressos em ciência e tecnologia básicas foram alcançados na Universidade Hebraica (fundada em 1925), no Instituto de Tecnologia Technion-Israel (fundado em Haifa em 1924) e no Centro de Pesquisa Daniel Sieff (fundado em 1934 em Rechovot), que posteriormente, em 1949, tornou-se o Instituto Weizmann de Ciência.
Quando o Estado de Israel foi criado, em 1948, a infra-estrutura científica e tecnológica do país já estava estabelecida, permitindo o progresso posterior. No início, a pesquisa se concentrava em projetos de importância nacional; a partir daí, gradualmente se desenvolveram as indústrias de orientação mercantil.

The Israeli military has issued statements saying there have been exchanges of gunfire between its armed forces and Hamas fighters in two kibbutzim near Gaza.
Four Hamas fighters have been killed as a result, they say.
We have also been told by the Israeli military that there was an exchange of gunfire in the industrial area of Ashkelon, in which three Hamas fighters were killed.
Meanwhile, massive Israeli military buildup continues along Gaza's border.

A Chinese jet fighter, is attempting something unbelievable – landing on the deck of a US aircraft carrier. The crew scrambles, alarms blare, and the world holds its breath. Given the current tensions between the US and China, this is not inconceivable. It could also be a tactic by China. What would happen in such a situation? How would the US respond, and what could be the far-reaching consequences of such a brazen act?
While the idea of a Chinese jet fighter attempting to land on a US aircraft carrier may seem far-fetched, it is not entirely impossible.. Such an action could be motivated by various factors, including a pilot's desire to defect, a navigational error, or even a deliberate provocation aimed at testing US resolve and response capabilities.
In the event of an unauthorized landing attempt, the US aircraft carrier crew would immediately spring into action. The ship's air traffic controllers would try to communicate with the approaching aircraft, demanding that it identify itself and state its intentions. If the aircraft fails to respond or continues on its course, the carrier's combat air patrol, consisting of armed fighter jets, would be scrambled to intercept and escort the intruder away from the ship.
