Ciudad Guayana es un puerto fluvial y principal ciudad del estado venezolano de Bolívar. Es la capital del Municipio Caroní, con una población que para el año 2007 se estimaba cercana al millón de habitantes en su área metropolitana. Es una ciudad planificada a partir de un concepto desarrollado por un equipo de profesionales venezolanos liderado por el general Rafael Alfonzo Ravard en colaboración técnica con el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachussetts y la Universidad de Harvard, siendo luego ejecutado y concluido por la Corporación Venezolana de Guayana.
Actualmente es la sexta ciudad más grande y moderna de Venezuela. Ciudad Guayana está formada por la conurbación de las comunidades de San Félix y Puerto Ordaz; la primera, ubicada en la desembocadura del río Caroní, es puerto fluvial de enlace con la región oriental venezolana y el resto del mundo, mientras que la segunda es una ciudad industrial y turística de gran actividad, unida a la primera por dos puentes que cruzan el río Caroní muy cerca de su desembocadura en el río Orinoco. Ubicada como está en la confluencia de ambos ríos, aprovecha al máximo la belleza de los saltos y raudales del Caroní integrándolos de modo único a su paisaje urbano.
Ciudad Guayana fue concebida como un escenario adecuado para el desarrollo del sur del país, pues responde a la magnitud e importancia de los recursos regionales disponibles: mineral de hierro, amplia disponibilidad de energía hidroeléctrica, potencial agrícola y forestal, oro, diamantes, bauxita y manganeso, combinado con su situación adyacente a una formidable vía de comunicación fluvial: el río Orinoco. Las centrales hidroeléctricas de Macagua y Guri aportan el total de la electricidad comercial generada en Guayana y el 72% del consumo nacional.

El cirujano maxilofacial, #WilliamsArrieta, fue detenido en #PuertoOrdaz, estado Bolívar, por funcionarios de la Policía Nacional Bolivariana luego de hacer reclamos en una cola por #Gasolina, este miércoles 9 de septiembre, en horas de la mañana según confirmaron los conductores que estaban en el sitio.

Arrieta fue golpeado por unos ocho policías cuando protestaba por las irregularidades en la venta de gasolina y les preguntaba a los oficiales por qué estaban dejando pasar a conductores que no estaban en la fila. Su detención quedó registrada en un video que circuló en redes sociales y él la confirmó a través de su cuenta de Instagram.
