"Is Colombia safe? Is Colombia dangerous? What about the News and Netflix’s “Narcos,” aren't you guys afraid to be going to Medellín?"
That was what we got asked a lot before moving to Colombia, and after being there for over 3 months, we felt like this was a video we just HAD to make.
We spent the majority of our time living in Medellín and Cartagena. And so we wanted to address the question, “As tourists living in Colombia, did Medellín feel dangerous to us?” Well, this was our experience.

OUR STORY
Hey! We're Olivia and Nathan ?? A couple from California.

We met back in 2014 in Monterey, California. I (Olivia) was a senior in college & Nathan had recently moved back to the area after living in Italy.

After a few “deep life talks” (ones that were so foreign to me) and hearing about the lifestyle Nathan had been creating for himself for the last 6 years, I wanted to spend more time with him.

We started dating and I learned how he’d moved to Cambodia when he was 17, Germany when he was 18, Italy when he was 20, and was itching to travel again.

I was fascinated and wondered HOW THE HELL DID THIS GUY PAY FOR ALL OF THAT? IS HE A DRUG DEALER?

Nathan would work in California for 2 years, save every dollar he could, move abroad, find a job in that country, live there for 1-2 years and then do it all over again. Each time, he’d learn the language of that country, acquire new skills & make lifelong friends.

I was deeply inspired & wanted to travel with him. After 1 year of working our butts off and saving every dollar we could, we moved to Australia. We lived + worked there for 3 years (learned to speak perfect Australian lol) & created online jobs so we could continue traveling full-time.

CURRENTLY: When covid hit, we flew home and bought an RV to travel the US. That’s what we’re currently doing now, and boy is it a LEARNING CURVE but also thrilling!

Down to earth, entertaining, and informative is our goal — we want you to feel like you’re experiencing the day with us.

Just like any where else you might have some Colombian culture shock and learning a little about Colombian culture can go a long way. We traveled from Cartagena to Santa Marta Colombia through Berlinastur the cost: $ 48,000 COP, about 12 USD.

We leave at noon and the trip is supposed to last about 4 hours or 4.30 from Cartagena with a 15-minute stop in Barranquilla. unfortunately we had problems, the bus was swept before arriving in Barranquilla, we were waiting for more than half an hour at a stop and fortunately in one of the attempts to start the engine it started. We arrived in Barranquilla Colombia, there we changed buses and left for the Rodadero Colombia, but on leaving we were in a terrible traffic jam that took us an additional 2 hours, until the driver managed to find a detour to return and leave by another route .

Over the course of time, we suffered the eternal torture suffered by inter-municipal transportation in Colombia, unbearable air conditioning at maximum; In the face of the passengers' constant complaint, the driver only replied that it was impossible to get off, nor did he suspend it due to the fogging of the windows. We already know this problem and we wore the jacket and bandana to cover the head and nose.

El Rodadero in Santa Marta Colombia, is the tourist place with many hotels and Airbnb sites (which we usually use) is the preferred site for visitors to Santa Marta. It is located ten minutes from Santa Marta, around the Gaira Bay, made up of a hotel and residential strip, which brings together beautiful and cozy white sand beaches and a very calm sea ideal for practicing water sports: sailing, spearfishing, skiing and others.
