A note on 'Ivan the Terrible' - in Russia, Ivan IV has the epithet 'Гро́зный' meaning 'Great' or 'Formidable'. So why is he known as Ivan 'the Terrible' in English? Because he was evil or useless or because of anti-Russian bias? No, because 'Terrible' in English also means awesome or formidable - this was well understood when 'Гро́зный' was first translated into English centuries ago, but now fewer people understand this. (see definitions 3 & 4 here: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/terr...). The name stuck, and Ivan IV has been known as Ivan the Terrible ever since.

ÚLTIMA HORA | Putin advierte: "Nadie podrá conquistar o doblegar a Rusia"

El presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, ha destacado en un acto reciente la importancia de la valentía y el sacrificio de los héroes que han defendido la libertad y la independencia de Rusia a lo largo de la historia. Durante una ceremonia en el salón Georgievsky, Putin ha rendido homenaje a los soldados que han demostrado un servicio desinteresado a la patria y ha subrayado la fuerza de la tradición militar rusa. En su discurso, el presidente ha señalado que "los héroes del pasado y los del presente están unidos por su fidelidad al deber", resaltando la valentía de los militares que luchan en la operación militar especial.

El portavoz del Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov ha anunciado que no ha tenido contacto con el presidente electo de EEUU, Donald Trump después de que el republicano pidiese un alto el fuego inmediato, así como sentarse a negociar con Ucrania sobre la paz en Ucrania y poner fin "a la locura de la guerra". Desde el Kremlin han recordado que Rusia está abierta a dialogar, pero la conversación debe basarse en los acuerdos de Estambul de 2022 y de la guerra actual del frente.

La embajada de Siria en Rusia ha confirmado que el líder Bashar Assad está en Moscú, donde ha recibido exilio junto a su familia. Desde la embajada han señalado que no han tenido ningún contacto con el mandatario. Aunque, el portavoz del Kremlin, Dimitry Peskov no comentó la presencia de Assad en Rusia.

El presidente de Ucrania, Zelensky ha informado que Kiev puede considerar la propuesta del presidente francés, Macron de desplegar tropas y militares occidentales de la OTAN en Ucrania, mientras que no forme parte oficial de la alianza atlántica. Zelensky ha señalado que para darse esto deben cumplirse ciertas condiciones, como saber cuándo entrará oficialmente Ucrania en la OTAN.
